Maghery bridge was built to restore a link which was lost when the car ferry over the mouth of the river Blackwater at the south-west corner of Lough Neagh was withdrawn in the 1970s. The bridge is for cyclists and pedestrians and forms an essential link on the Loughshore Trail cycle route. Unlike most bridges on this website, I am fortunate to have obtained both "before" and "after" photographs, together with some photographs of the actual bridge construction, thanks to Colm Forker who works at the Maghery Country Park.

The bridge lies close to the Maghery Country Park which features very strongly in my childhood memories.
